Cumbria Local Nature Partnership is the prominent and unified voice for the natural environment in Cumbria. The Partnership supports strategic, efficient, and sustainable action for nature across the county and facilitates collective action to deliver high quality, connected habitats for nature, increase biodiversity, and support climate resilience/ adaptation across Cumbria.
The area covered by the work of the CLNP encompasses the entire county of Cumbria. This includes large areas of landscape designations such as the Lake District National Park and portions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the Solway, North Pennines and Arnside and Silverdale National Landscapes.
The work of Cumbria Local Nature Partnership is overseen by the Partnership Board but we work strategically with a wide range of stakeholders who share our priorities including:
- statutory agencies
- environmental organisations
- local authorities
- national parks and landscapes
- representatives of farming and landowning interests
- research and educational institutions
- businesses, voluntary organisations and community groups

Cumbria Local Nature Partnership
- Is the delivery partnership for Cumbria’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy, bringing together stakeholders via the working groups and providing strategic oversight via the CLNP Board.
- Acts as a cross-sector advocate for the natural environment in Cumbria locally and nationally, ensuring a wide range of stakeholders understand and value the benefits of nature and healthy, functioning ecosystems.
- Provides input on the natural environment and Local Nature Recovery to influence local and national policies, plans and frameworks, and Government action.
- Communicates shared messages about nature recovery, environmental issues, and wider benefits of nature at a local and national level to influence key stakeholders and policies;
- Supports partners to deliver for the natural environment, acting as a hub for nature focussed actions
- Provides a forum for the stakeholders in Cumbria’s natural environment.
- Promotes the work of Partners to raise the profile of nature recovery in Cumbria and highlight the successes and challenges
- Works strategically with partners across sectors to improve the natural environment knowledge and evidence base.
