Sharing data, learning, knowledge, and experience across organisations and sectors means more effective action can be taken for nature’s recovery that will also benefit communities and the economy.

With reliable data and consistent monitoring methodologies we can make evidence backed decisions, measure progress, and identify future priorities. Through research, innovation and strategic cross-sector partnerships we can add to the evidence base and improve knowledge and understanding in Cumbria and beyond!

Cumbria Local Nature Partnership;

  • Works strategically with partners across sectors to improve the knowledge and evidence base.
  • Identifies opportunities for innovation, research, and projects.
  • Identifies gaps in our knowledge and evidence base and establishes mechanisms and partnerships for filling these.
  • Supports the work of Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre and works in partnership to increase the quantity and quality of environmental data for Cumbria.
  • Identifies opportunities and supports delivery of academic partnerships and research.
  • Maintains an overview and awareness of opportunities and risks related to local and national policy and politics.
  • Identifies where skills development and/or learning is needed to deliver against priorities.

Reliable data and consistent monitoring methodology is important so we can measure progress, and identify future priorities. Activity in this area includes:

  • Identifying gaps in the knowledge base and working with Partners, academics and researchers, and Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre to fill these
  • Working in partnership with Cumbria Land and Nature Skills Service and others to identify and meet skills development needs Link to LANSS website when available.
  • Developing and supporting the delivery of data and knowledge focussed projects such as the Cumbria Wildlife Sites Project to improve baseline data.
  • Improving the natural environment evidence-base, its management and accessibility in partnership with Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre.
  • Working in partnership with the People and Nature Network to facilitate opportunities for cross-sector and organisational collaboration and sharing.
